Hi every body, last two weeks I was working on understanding what are S7-31x MMCs. In the end I collected following information: 64KB-4MB SIEMENS MMC cards are standard 16MB MMCs with special SIEMENS format.
Datasheet at 8MB SIEMENS MMCs are the same but 32MB MMCs. You can make bit copy of these MMCs by using tools at in standard MMC/SD card reader. By using this tools you also copy the special SIEMENS format. But in case you would like to use non SIEMENS 16MB or 32MB MMC, you cant use it in S7 as every MMC has private CID and CSD register where are stored informacion as OEM/APPLICATION ID, PRODUCT NAME. The example of SIEMENS 64KB MMC is at CID is OTP register and first 14 bytes of CSD are programed only by manufacturer. S7 checks and compares stored info. From CID and CSD.

If you have SIEMENS MMC accidentaly formated in standard MMC/SD card reader/writer (for example as FAT format) you can repair it in this standard MMC/SD reader/writer. Read original SIEMENS MMC by S7imgrd (the same size as failed card) 2. Write this image to failed MMC by S7imgwr When I was analyzing MMCs I also find out how is the password stored at the MMC. If you have any question, email me at [email protected]. Hello, I'm sorry, I have made mistake in description, if you need to make true bit copy of MMC card or you want to repair failed MMC card, you have to use WinHex program (Here is a procedure: a) read the original MMC in 2 steps 1.
64KB image 8MB image b) write the original image into failed MMC 1. Dont you afraid if you receive the following notice 3.!!!! S7imgrd and S7imgwr don't make true bit copy of MMC!!!! Petr [email protected]. You are right, but you can use MMC from other manufacturer if CID and CSD records in the MMC match the SIEMENS CID, CSD records.
64KB-4MB SIEMENS MMC cards work on the same hardware (16MB MMC), 8MB SIEMENS MMC are 32MB MMC. You can't copy format from 4MB card to 64KB as 4MB and 64KB cards work at the same hardware because have diferent CID records. S7s recognise MMC size from CID, CSD and card format. All these three records must match. CID and CSD records are OTP (one time programable by manufacturer)In CSD register last 8 bits and CRC are partialy user programable.
I have made my oven CID and CSD card reader/writer and have programed simple C program as I hadn't been able to find any standard MMC reader with posibility to read and write CSD register. At the moment I look for any china supplier who will be able supply me with the MMC programed as SIEMENS MMC. If I am succesfull, the price of 8MB MMC will be about 40-50 USD. Images + winhex which there is here do not work. I in hopeless position. See With specified above a site (I took an image and filled in it through winhex 14.1 These versions of images were not picked up by the Spanish program. I have overcome a problem by own strength.
The image used 2 mb from the above-stated site. The image has appeared clumsy.
It also has helped me. I have started to compare in 16-HEX a code. It was found out, that sites not deleted on MMC-cards to contain in the end of a file in a range of 00F4C000 addresses - 00F4C0A0. Three bytes being that range should coincide with three bytes in a range 000001C0 - 000001F0. If to be more objective can be and more than 3 bytes, but I think in each of chances it is possible to find dependence.
Everyone that has fiddled with this consistently state that you cannot use a regular MMC card as a Siemens MMC card. About the excessive pricing, then I think you are partially correct. Only partially, because a standard MMC card isnt intended for industrial use.
Especially temperature ratings are different. There are 3rd party suppliers of Siemens-compatible MMC cards (Deltalogic and Helmholz I think). They are slightly less expensive than the Siemens cards. Only consumer pressure (= buying at the competition) can make Siemens reduce its prices. Everyone that has fiddled with this consistently state that you cannot use a regular MMC card as a Siemens MMC card. Well I read the posts from about 2006 and wondered if wnything had progressed since then. Obviously not significantly!
About the excessive pricing, then I think you are partially correct. Only partially, because a standard MMC card isnt intended for industrial use. Especially temperature ratings are different. Well I see your point about the 'industrialised' issue, however I don't think the temperature rating should be an issue, as most PLC installations are in a control room intended for occasional human occupation also. I would not expect to see a temperature swing of a wide amount.
Imagine a digital camera, which is intended for mobility and therefore could be (and is) often used in low and high temperature environments. This can and does use a standard off the shelf 2GB MMC card for about $50! Kingston specify the temperature range from 0°C to 60°C for their standard versions. Would this not be sufficient formost PLC application?? There are 3rd party suppliers of Siemens-compatible MMC cards (Deltalogic and Helmholz I think).
They are slightly less expensive than the Siemens cards. Well thank you for the info, I wasn't aware of these suppliers until now, appreciate that. Only consumer pressure (= buying at the competition) can make Siemens reduce its prices. Or someone figure out how to get around this by: 1) Reverse engineered firmware - anyone brave enough for this? 2) Finding an MMC card supplier willing to add the right info to the CID etc.
3) Finding an MMC card supplier willing to supply MMC cards without the OTP area with the CID in it being programmed, and obtaining / writing software to program this area. Personally I would have thought that option 2 would be the easiest especially a supplier from the far East, as the birthplace of mass copying electronics. Formatting the cards is already documented on this very forum. Best regards.
I dont know what the temperature specs are for a Siemens MMC. But I still believe they are better than just any consumer grade card. Even if the specs turns out to be similar, then 'guaranteed specs' in consumer grade product and in an industrial product are two different things. Another way to put it: I have had a lot of regular MMC cards, CF cards and USB sticks fail. I have not yet experienced a Siemens MMC card failure. I am sure that the cards are overpriced for what you get. But I wouldnt consider a product that isnt industrially graded as an alternative.
I have a 2Mb DataFlash card from ATMEL (type AT45DCB002) from a industrial machine. The card is damaged, so the machine doesn't work. As I have another equal machine, I tried it's card on the first one and it works. So I purchased a new card and need to make an image from the good one. The PC card reader drive I have detects the card, but can't read it. Any one can tell me how to do it?
Hello, you should not use the PC card reader drive read it.but you can try the 'WINHEX',clone the MMC. Hi, there is no way to repair S7-MMC format by S7img. To repair acidentaly FAT formated S7-MMC is only possible with sw.

(Petr Sorry Tisher these links are broken: Could you fix it? Hello Sir, I am facing a problem in communication with my CPU 315-2DP. I am using a CP 343-1 for Communication with PC.
I have configured my CPU 315-2DP and DI/DO and AI slots. And saved it. Then when i insert a memory card in CPU its communication stopped with PC. After when i removed memory card its communication stats, but in both condition my CP343-1 was in STOP mode. And one thing is that When i tried to communicate my CPU 315-2DP without memory card CP343-1 detected by PC. So i thought that there was a fault in Memory Card. I have used memory card of Siemens 64KB.
Sir please help me to solve this problem. I want to know that how to format memory card? And how to redownload program in it? Hello Friends, I have a problem.
I have 512 kb S7 MMC and it does not work now. I installed 512 kb img file from this site and tryed to write it to MMC card by using WinHex program but it is giving error by loading. It says '6716 sector did not find ' something like that. I saw that, in the phyisically sector numbers 6716 and logically sector numbers 6715. Now I dont know what I can do.
Maybe this will help someone. I had the same problem with MMC card 512 kb. This card was formatted in external cardreader by Windows and it became 3,52 Mb (!) FAT. And I can't wrote image file of 15Mb on card 3,52 Mb.
WinHEX said 'Cant write 6716 sector'. Problem was solved by formatting card in another (notebook) cardreader (it became 16Mb). And then I had written image onto card.
Now it work correctly with 315 PN/DP CPU. Hi everybody, the S7ImgRd and S7ImgWr are updated.
You can now try to bring back accidently formated MMC with other images. Also the Password thing, earlier posted here, is build in, but please dont violate copyright.
Hello, I need some help for S7-300 512KB MMC card which was formatted accidentally. Now, I got the Image file in zip and not able to use the S7imgWR since it is asking for S7 MMC Image file. Could you pls. Let me know how do I Create the S7 MMC Image file fm a zip file or Could you pls. Send me one if it is available with you?
Since at-present I do not have a good MMC Card, unable to use S7imgRD, it is by default is looking for my USB ports / F, H, K etc. Best Regards. I am trying to restore my 4MB MMC for S7-1200. I have made an image with Winhex from the original card an try to clone it to my damaged card. I get the messages in the proces of cloning: - Can not read from Sector 15872 of removable medium 1. The parameter is incorect.
Can not read from Sector 15873 of removable medium 1. The parameter is incorect. Can not read from Sector 16064 of removable medium 1. The parameter is incorect.
And the card those not work in S7-1200. What is wrong?

Thanks very much. I have problem with Siemens SD card 64kb formated FAT, but I follow your instruction and your data image then i fixed. Thanks very much.
Pham Xuan Ky. MCIQ, Are you aware that unprotecting the password might be illegal? The machine manufacturer probably used it to guarantee that the programs is not modified or to protect it's know-how. Best regards, Kelkoon Dear Kelkoon, Exactly warn 'the password that you input is illegal.' When I connect to, It sure manufactor don't allow us to download this program via this mode. But can you tell me how to set to reach this consequence? Also How can I do to relieve this pretection?
Or remake a mmc card via using program decrypted? But I found the program that I have decrypted don't include SFC block? Expect your reply, thank you. Hello everyone, I have a problem. I have a Siemens PLC 315-2DP that i tried to update its firmware, but during the online firmware update an error occurred and update process interrupted. Now the CPU system fault LED is blinking and nothing else! Currently I cannot afford buying a USB Prommer to write a new firmware on its memory card and hopefully return the PLC back to a healthy state by re-updating its firmware. Now if somebody write its firmware on a 64K MMC and upload its image, he/she has saved me lots of trouble.
Could anybody help me with this matter? Here is the firmware download page: (preferably version 3.0.3) Thank you all in advance.
